Portland rapper Milc brought his third annual Dairy Fest to Polaris Hall in the Humboldt neighborhood on Friday, Oct. 2, filling the North Portland venue with an all-local Hip Hop lineup.

The showcase at 635 N. Killingsworth Ct. featured performers 3Way Heff, Jesse Desean and T.$poon, with Hasaan Thomas hosting and producer Spinitch spinning an all-vinyl DJ set. Doors opened at 8 p.m. and the show started at 9 p.m. Tickets were $19.27.

Milc, who grew up rapping on Northeast Portland playgrounds, curates Dairy Fest as an annual platform for the city's independent rap scene. Producer Andy Savoie co-created the event, according to Milc's Instagram account. The Portland Mercury named Dairy Fest one of the best budget-friendly events of the weekend.

Thomas, the host, is also the star of the dark comedy web series Hasaan Hates Portland, which follows a Black man navigating life in Portland. The series is being adapted into a feature film. The production's Kickstarter campaign reached its $40,000 goal, and filming was on day eight of a 16-day shoot as of Sept. 19, according to the show's Instagram page.

Spinitch, who handled DJ duties Oct. 2, previously collaborated with Milc and Portland rapper Wynne on the track "Mr. and Mrs. Smith."

Dairy Fest lands in a year when Multnomah County officially recognized hip-hop's role in the community. The Board of County Commissioners designated the week of Aug. 20 as Hip-Hop Week, a proclamation co-sponsored by Commissioners Vince Jones-Dixon and Shannon Singleton. "When we started Hip-Hop Day in Portland, the idea was about bringing the community together," DJ O.G.ONE said at the county's Aug. 19 proclamation ceremony.

Polaris Hall, part of the same venue family as Mississippi Studios and Revolution Hall, sits blocks from the PCC Cascade campus on the edge of one of Portland's historically Black neighborhoods.
