Jordan Harrison went from undrafted to indispensable in a single Saturday night. Now she has the contract to prove it.
The Portland Fire announced Sunday, Aug. 9, that they converted the 22-year-old guard's developmental contract to a standard WNBA deal, according to OregonLive.
The move came one day after Harrison posted career highs of 13 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists in 28 minutes during a 100-93 win over the Seattle Storm at Moda Center.
The conversion makes Harrison a full roster member for the rest of the season and signals how Portland (13-19) plans to navigate a backcourt decimated by injuries.
Starting guard Carla Leite left Saturday's game with a knee sprain just two minutes before the end of the first quarter. Sarah Ashlee Barker, the team's starting shooting guard, tore her ACL in July, ending her season.
Harrison stepped in and delivered.
Her 3-pointer with 7:26 remaining in the fourth quarter pushed Portland's lead to 82-75, helping the Fire hold off a Storm rally. She finished with career highs across the board in a game attended by 15,294 fans.
The West Virginia product went unselected in the 2026 WNBA Draft, signed a training camp contract with the Fire and earned a developmental deal to open the season.
Developmental contracts limit players to 12 games. Harrison appeared in six, averaging 5.5 points, 3.8 assists and 2.0 rebounds before Saturday's breakout.
To create the roster spot, the Fire suspended center Luisa Geiselsöder's contract ahead of the FIBA World Cup before Saturday's game, according to KPTV. Harrison has earned a reputation as a fan favorite for her hard-nosed defense and scrappy play, and the team's announcement on X drew more than 1,000 likes and 45,000 impressions.
Leite's injury status remains unclear. She had been one of Portland's most consistent players this season, averaging 15.9 points and 26.1 minutes per game in her second WNBA year. With both Leite and Barker sidelined, Harrison figures to see extended minutes going forward under head coach Alex Sarama.
The Fire host the Minnesota Lynx on Thursday, Aug. 13, at Moda Center.
