Literary Arts has scheduled 11 free events across July, including an open mic hosted by a local author.

One event is already at capacity: Scot Nakagawa's Tuesday, July 14, talk on artistic freedom and democracy, though a waitlist remains open.

Nakagawa, who has organized against authoritarian movements since 1988, co-directs the 22nd Century Initiative. The event is supported by the Ronald W. Naito MD Foundation.

Selected highlights:

• Wednesday, July 1, 6:30–8 p.m. — One Page Wednesday open mic (new time; sign-ups at 6 p.m.), hosted by Alexa Winik, featuring Portland author Tove Danovich.
• Wednesday, July 8, 6:30–7:30 p.m. — Oregon Book Award finalist Michael Copperman launches Seeking Kenny, in conversation with Margaret Malone.
• Thursday, July 16, 7–9 p.m. — Slamlandia poetry slam, hosted by Julia Gaskill.
• Tuesday, July 22, 6:30–7:30 p.m. — Christine Hartman-Derr celebrates middle-grade novel Raven Rising with Steph Littlebird. Co-presented with NAYA.
• Thursday, July 30, 6:30–7:30 p.m. — Stafford Challenge Anthology Book Launch, featuring 200-plus poems from writers in 28 countries.
