DJ OG One's PDX Hip Hop Week hits its 10th year this summer, and the opening night lands on outer Southeast Portland's 82nd Avenue corridor.

Portland rapper Mental Stamina headlines a free showcase at Covert Cafe, 803 SE 82nd Ave., on Tuesday, August 11, from 6 to 10 p.m. The show is 21+ with no cover charge. Additional performers will be announced.

David "DJ OG One" Jackson co-founded PDX Hip Hop Week and has run it for a decade alongside his 19th season as the Portland Trail Blazers' official DJ.

The City of Portland proclaimed November 30 as DJ OG One Day, recognizing Jackson's 33 years of community work in Portland Hip Hop. He battled Stage 3 colorectal cancer and kept building.

The 82nd Avenue corridor is where younger artists and immigrant-community Hip Hop is emerging without mainstream press coverage.

Covert Cafe hosted a Hip Hop event listed by Willamette Week in January 2026, and the PDX Hip Hop Week booking signals the venue's growing role as a stage for Portland artists east of the city center.

Separately, St. Johns rapper Illmaculate — Gregory Poe, a Roosevelt High School graduate who won the 2004 Scribble Jam freestyle competition at age 17 — released a collaborative album on Monday, July 6, with California rappers Demrick and Sahtyre. Producer Chase Moore handled the beats.

Illmaculate announced the project on Instagram on Saturday, June 27, but did not name the album in his post. The project is available on streaming platforms. Illmaculate has released music independently for two decades without a major label.

The August 11 Covert Cafe show is the next place to hear Portland Hip Hop live on 82nd Avenue for free.
