An all-ages punk block party will take over Ankeny Alley Plaza in downtown Portland on July 4.

Volume Bomb, the Northeast Portland nonprofit that started as a single neighborhood block party in the mid-2010s, is debuting its UnMuted program with the inaugural Pride at Full Volume show.

Six bands will perform between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m. at SW 3rd and Ankeny, alongside drag performances and a trans fashion show.

"Queer and women led bands have a harder time finding purchase in the largely straight/cis/male dominated realms of aggressive music like punk rock, metal, hardcore," co-founder Jason Rocksmore wrote in a May blog post explaining the program's rationale.

UnMuted is Volume Bomb's answer to that gap. The program spotlights queer and women-led punk, metal, and hardcore acts in the Pacific Northwest, with the goal of raising their visibility and putting money in their pockets.

The Pride at Full Volume lineup includes Altar Girl, New Here PDX, Triple Lutz Band, Truuz PDX, Creature Party, and Trans Panic Punk. The event runs 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Ankeny Alley Plaza, SW 3rd and Ankeny.

The venue changed from the originally announced location on SE Clinton Street. Volume Bomb confirmed the move on its Facebook page. Attendees should check the organization's social media for any further updates.

Rocksmore co-founded Volume Bomb around 2015. The organization spent years booking shows and promoting Portland punk bands informally before incorporating as a 501(c)(3) in 2025, according to OPB. Jamie Lynne Powell-Herbold directs the UnMuted program.

Paying musicians is central to the nonprofit's model. Rocksmore has described the tension between compensating bands fairly and keeping events affordable, framing community donations as the bridge between those goals.

The organization has set a $10,000 fundraising goal for UnMuted programming, according to its website.

Beyond Saturday's show, Rocksmore said Volume Bomb plans to offer workshops where local musicians share knowledge about playing live in the Pacific Northwest, host more free events showcasing queer and women artists, and release an UnMuted compilation record.
