The Portland Timbers lost 2-1 to Austin FC on Saturday, Aug. 29, at Providence Park after conceding a goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

Antony had converted a penalty kick in the 89th minute to equalize, sending green smoke billowing from the Timbers Army section. Five minutes later, Austin's Oleksandr Svatok tapped in a rebound from six yards out.

Timbers goalkeeper James Pantemis dropped to all fours in front of 20,952 people.

The loss dropped Portland to 8-10-4 with 28 points, 11th in the Western Conference and one point behind Minnesota United for the final playoff spot, according to Fox Sports.

It was the Timbers' first home defeat under new manager Martí Cifuentes and their first match without leading scorer Kevin Kelsy, who was sold to Scottish club Rangers on Aug. 26 for a reported $13 million plus add-ons.

Austin struck first. Facundo Torres finished a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner in the 25th minute, assisted by Joseph Rosales and Besard Sabovic.

Portland chased the ball for much of the match while Austin sat on the lead, according to The Oregonian.

Cifuentes turned to his bench. Antony replaced Gage Guerra in the 62nd minute, and the substitution paid off when Antony's shot struck an Austin defender's arm inside the box.

Video review confirmed the penalty, and Antony buried it into the bottom right corner.

The celebration was short-lived. On a corner kick in the fourth minute of stoppage time, Finn Surman's clearing header fell to Sabovic, whose header from the top of the penalty area was blocked by Surman again.

The ball bounced to Svatok, who finished from point-blank range for his second goal of the season.

It was Svatok's second career MLS goal. It was Cifuentes' second loss as Portland's manager.

Portland outshot Austin 12-10 and put five shots on target to Austin's three, according to the Timbers' match recap.

Austin goalkeeper Brad Stuver made four saves.

Kelsy's absence loomed over the match. The 22-year-old striker had scored nine goals in 20 MLS appearances this season before his transfer. At his introductory press conference on Aug. 26, Cifuentes acknowledged the tension between competing now and building for the future. "We're going to try to be very competitive tomorrow, because there's a game tomorrow, but the reality is that the schedule is what it is," he told reporters, as reported by The Oregonian.

The Timbers host Minnesota United on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Providence Park. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
