A Vietnamese restaurant and bar with seating for more than 570 guests, indoors and on a waterfront terrace, is headed for the RiverPlace waterfront. The project will fill an 8,350-square-foot dining room that has sat empty since McCormick & Schmick's Harborside closed more than two years ago.
Cay Bar & Grill, owned by Khoa Tran, plans to open at 309 S. Montgomery St. between August and September 2026. The project will convert the former seafood house into a full-service Vietnamese bar and grill with indoor and outdoor seating, live music, DJs, and dancing.
What's on the menu
Cay Bar & Grill's lineup will include phở, bún, cơm, bò kho, and bún bò Huế, along with vegetarian options such as phở chay and bún bò Huế chay. The restaurant will also have a full bar and happy-hour menu. It plans to operate daily from about 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Seating will accommodate roughly 350 guests indoors and 220 on the outdoor terrace.
A vacancy that lingered
McCormick & Schmick's Harborside closed Monday, April 1, 2024, when its lease expired, KPTV reported at the time. The chain, co-founded by Jake's Famous Crawfish owner Bill McCormick and manager Douglas Schmick, once operated more than 100 locations nationwide. Its last Oregon outpost, at Bridgeport Village, shut down in March 2025, according to The Oregonian.
What's next
A firm opening date has not been announced. The owners are targeting August to September 2026, with the timeline contingent on permits and buildout progress. No confirmed city building permit or liquor license application for Cay Bar & Grill appeared in public records as of July 17.
