Southeast Portland neighborhoods are throwing open their garages, launching homemade boats, and lining up for a parade.
The Brooklyn Business Association's third annual neighborhood yard sale runs 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on June 27, with 44 confirmed yard sales, a block party on SE 11th, a community rummage sale, and seven participating businesses offering specials.
Champs Burger opens at 8 a.m. for breakfast sandwiches; Rose City Coffee Co. opens early for caffeine; and pianist Jon Puro plays there from 2 to 4 p.m. Tomcat Bikes is offering free safety checks on any bike purchased at a yard sale.

About 50 homes participated in 2025, according to The Bee.
The Royal Rosarians' Milk Carton Boat Race returns to the Casting Pond at Westmoreland Park, 7700 SE 22nd Ave., on Sunday, June 28. The opening ceremony begins at 11:45 a.m., with races starting at noon. Admission is free, and entering a boat costs nothing.
The race is a Portland tradition dating to 1973. Competitors build handmade, human-powered boats using only recycled milk cartons and jugs, then race across the pond in nine categories. The top prize is the Best in Show Milk Can Trophy.
It's also Inner Southeast's only official Portland Rose Festival event, according to the Royal Rosarian Foundation. At the 50th anniversary race in 2023, nearly 50 boats competed.
The Eastmoreland Neighborhood Association's 32nd annual Fourth of July parade kicks off at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 4, in front of Duniway Elementary School at 7700 SE Reed College Place. An art fair featuring local artists runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the grassy area of Reed College Place near SE Rex.
The parade features a Portland Fire Engine escort, music by the Portland Power Pep Band, vintage cars from the Milwaukie Mustang Club, and the Duniway Bike Bus. Kids can decorate bikes and scooters to join in. A petting zoo with four adult goats runs 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Otto's Sausage Kitchen provides free hot dogs.
The parade has drawn more than 1,000 people in past years, according to the Eastmoreland Neighborhood Association. Parade coordinator Mick Seidl is seeking volunteers; contact him at [email protected].
Neighborhood historian Joanne Carlson told East Portland News in 2022 that the parade started as a bicycle event in 1994: "Now we have cars, bicycles, and lots and lots of people on foot!"
